St. Petersburg, FL (November 18, 2015) – Northside Hospital announces that it has been recognized as the 2014 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in the United States. Northside Hospital was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2015 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measured performance for Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.
The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism, and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations.
As a 2014 Top Performer hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2014 accountability measured data including:
- Achieving cumulative performance of 95% or above across all reported accountability measures
- Achieving performance of 95% or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominated cases; and
- Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95% or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95% or above.
A 95% score means a hospital provided evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice/examples including giving aspirins on arrival to heart attack patients, giving antibiotics an hour before surgery, or providing a home management plan for care for children with asthma.
“We understand what matters the most to patients at Northside Hospital is the quality and safety of the care they receive. That is why we have made it a top priority to improve patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Dia Nichols, CEO of Northside Hospital. “Northside Hospital is proud to be named a Top Performer as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff,” he added.
