St. Petersburg, FL – Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), one of the largest global clinical research programs, has signed an agreement with The Tampa Bay Heart Institute at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, as a cardiovascular clinical research strategic site.

SCRI’s rapidly expanding cardiovascular research network enables hospitals and physician practices to develop their research programs and provides the opportunity for patients to consider participation in clinical trials in their own community.“Northside Hospital has an outstanding reputation for delivering quality and innovative cardiovascular care, both at the facility and provider level,” said Steven V. Manoukian, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.S.C.A.I., director of cardiovascular research for SCRI. “Northside is SCRI’s sixth cardiovascular strategic site and this new partnership will further our goal of advancing therapies for patients through our network of healthcare facilities and physician practices.”

Northside Hospital is a 288-bed facility located in South Pinellas County with more than 400 affiliated doctors. It offers a multitude of services including comprehensive cardiac care through the Tampa Bay Heart Institute. Northside Hospital is an accredited chest pain center with PCI by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and last year treated more ambulance transported STEMI heart attack patients than any other hospital in Pinellas County. Average STEMI treatment times are posted on the hospital’s website and consistently beat the national benchmark. Additionally, Northside is a Joint Commission certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center and received the Silver Performance Award for Coronary Artery Disease from the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines program for excellence in cardiac care.

“We are thrilled to be affiliated with SCRI and look forward to partnering with Dr. Manoukian and his team to help expand cardiovascular treatment options for our patients at Northside and to the St. Petersburg community,” said Stephen J. Daugherty, President and CEO of Northside Hospital. As part of the agreement, SCRI will help manage industry sponsored and investigator initiated clinical trials in interventional cardiology and electrophysiology.  In addition, the staff will have access to SCRI’s physician experts and clinical research team.
