October 04, 2011
St. Petersburg, FL - The Tampa Bay Heart Institute at Northside Hospital announces the opening of its new, state-of-the-art, cardiac electrophysiology (EP) lab. Featuring the latest technologically advanced equipment, including a 56” video monitoring system and 4 private recovery rooms, Northside Hospital’s EP lab offers the latest diagnostic technology and advanced treatment options for heart arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats).
Electrophysiology is a subspecialty of cardiology that involves the study of the electrical activity of the heart. Procedures routinely performed in an EP lab include those that deal directly with the electrical system of the heart, such as pacemaker and defibrillator implantation and repair, cardiac ablations, and EP studies for the detection of arrhythmias. With a dedicated staff of specialty trained medical professionals and electrophysiologists, the EP lab at Northside Hospital allows patients to receive state-of-the-art care in an inpatient or outpatient setting, reducing the effects of various heart rhythm disorders with procedures not routinely available at other facilities.
“This specialized addition to our cardiovascular program provides our physicians with the latest technology to diagnosis and treat cardiac arrhythmias,” said Stephen J. Daugherty, President and CEO of Northside Hospital. “Northside Hospital is committed providing the best cardiovascular care to the Tampa Bay community.”
