April 19, 2010 – St. Petersburg, FL– Northside Hospital is celebrating National Volunteer Week by honoring its dedicated volunteers with an appreciation lunch. The lunch is an annual celebration that pays tribute to the yearlong hard work and time donated by the hospital’s volunteers.
Over 60 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds provide service to the hospital, helping in such areas as the emergency room, pharmacy, front lobby, engineering, family waiting room, chapel, and gift shop. From March of 2009 to March of 2010, Northside Hospital’s volunteers provided over 20,000 hours of generous assistance.
The most tenured volunteer, Jack Thielemann, has been volunteering since the hospital opened in 1976, and has dedicated over 35,000 hours of his time. In his honor, Northside Hospital established Jack’s Corner, the area where Jack sits directing and greeting staff and families.
“Our volunteers are a vital part of our hospital team,” said Stephen J. Daugherty, President and CEO of Northside Hospital. “They are often the first person patients and their families see when they visit our facility, and they are an integral part of the patient care experience, providing information, support, and smiles.”
